Phi Theta Kappa’s Alpha Mu Chi chapter at NTCC hosted a Valentine¡¯s fundraising event to attend the Texas Regional Conference and the Catalyst Convention. While many clubs were selling items on Valentine¡¯s Day, PTK was ahead of the game and selling items on the day before. This allowed staff and students to have their gifts ready before the big day. Students had the option to purchase pan dulce, atole and crocheted roses.

The chapter will attend the Texas Regional Conference in March in Irving, TX, and the Catalyst (National) Conference in April in Columbus, Ohio. This year these conferences are of special importance to the Alpha Mu Chi chapter because of NTCC student Jordan Chapin who is the current Texas Region President.

Last year, at the regional conference, Chapin and other Alpha Mu Chi members campaigned for the Regional President position. This involved weeks of learning a dance and skit routine, and then performing the skit in front of the other Texas PTK chapters. Chapin followed the skit with a speech and was announced as the winner the next day.

Alpha Mu Chi has held the position of Texas Regional President previously and takes the role seriously. This year, Monse Rivero-Sanchez will be campaigning for Vice President of District 3 in Texas.

The Alpha Mu Chi chapter holds many different fundraisers throughout the semester to raise funds for their regional and national conferences, including selling concessions at all Whatley events and much more. All money raised supports the chapter¡¯s travel, hotel and registration costs. The next Whatley event, the Neal McCoy Concert, is scheduled for February 18. There is also a taco fundraiser in the works for early March.

Alpha Mu Chi members Raul Leija, Michelle Calderon, and Victor Diaz sell treats at the Whatley Event in January of 2023.
